The council insisted it would sell the camps while making wide-ranging updates to several other larger ones, based on a study that indicated that Tweedale had reached its space limits, among other things.ĭuring Sunday’s ceremony, from which the press was barred, several hundred former campers participated in a flag ceremony, toasting marshmallows, crafts and tours, according to the information letter sent to participants. When the announcement of the closings was made, adults who were involved with Tweedale through the years mounted a campaign to save it with petitions and letters, but to no avail. Tohikanee and Hidden Falls have been shuttered for several years now, but Tweedale remained available for troop camping through last summer. In 2011 the council announced it would be selling Tweedale in Oxford, Camp Tohikanee in Quakertown and Camp Hidden Falls in Dingman’s Ferry. On Sunday, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania held a ceremony called “A Toast to Tweedale,” which brought together campers, staff and other scouts from the past on the grounds of the 108-acre facility that sits along the Octoraro Resevoir.
